Fear of Public Speaking
Fear of public speaking is one of the most common causes of anxiety in the entire world.
You probably know the symptoms: cold and clammy hand, frozen lips or mumbly speech patterns, and tight, tense body movements.
In public speaking fear can be seen in a positive aspect as well. According to speaking expert Kenneth McFarland, "it is not necessary to banish fear in order to gain confidence. A wholesome fear of failure is one of the best guarantees of success."
This means that fear can be a motivating force.
The way to curb your fear is to prepare thoroughly. Fear cannot be eliminated but the energy in fear can be harnessed and used to add power to your speeches.
Believe that you will succeed. Visualize yourself as a confident and effective public speaker. Your audience will feel your confidence. They will trust you and gain respect for you and your message.
Don't forget to prepare for your successful moment by paying attention to good grooming. Dress comfortably and appropriately so that you feel your best about how you look. Eyes will be on you.
